Hometown Tourist
Melting into your trance
We scamper aboard
Eager passengers
In pursuit of surprise
Sweep us from the ordinary
Rivet our senses
Broaden our character
Unearth perspective anew
Many dream of traveling “someday…”
But life’s obligations intervene
Time and money earmarked for other things
Yet
Adventure beguiles daily
No pricey ticket or suitcase required
Come hither
Sidle up
To that well-grooved chair in the corner cafe
Throw your heart’s eyes open
Hone your gaze
Feast upon the flurry of everyday charm
Donning the inquisitive mindset of a
Hometown Tourist…
A fine poem. Beautifully worded with carefully chosen expressions to tell a harsh truth, gently. Thank you!
What a sheer delight to hear from you, my Dearest Arjun! Indeed, I am often told how “lucky” I am to be able to travel the world at my whim…yet I have found that great treasures reside everywhere — if only I take the time to look… Thank you for the privilege of your kind visit.
Definitely, you are lucky. Travel makes for the most treasured memories. Alongside to experience joy in our surroundings, our family, people in our neighborhood, city we live in is bliss.
this is so true … we just have to learn to see what is so often overlooked right in front of us. Great poem.
So very true, Dear Michael. I’m so happy I found YOU. Can’t wait to read more of your delicious words!!
I just started reading your blog, it is very good and intriguing ! I too am a 34 year Flight Attendant from Chicago with a major airline. I can relate!!! Thank you for your writing!
Dearest Pam, I wish I was 34! 😜 Ha! Seriously, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking your precious time to read my blog. We are so fortunate to be a part of such a fabulous profession!!! xoxo
Now that’s some beautiful wisdom my precious friend!
I’ve been learning from the best (YOU), Dear Sheri!
❤❤
Brilliant! Have a lovely weekend! S
Thank you so much! Love your perspective on life and your amazing blog!!
🙂
It is my Lady! I have been waiting for that lovely poem! 🙂
Aww shucks, I know I’m a bit behind on my writing as of late. Thanks for sticking with me, my kind and generous EV, and continuing to inspire me in countless ways! 😘
❤
I love this on so many levels!! I do enjoy travel, but love my own state so much and always find unexplored areas — always a quaint little town with art galleries, a museum, or a unique bookstore. My little state (NJ) is so under-rated, if I never left it again I truly feel I wouldn’t be missing anything!
You absolutely nailed it on the head, Maryanne! No need to go halfway around the globe when unlimited intrigue awaits right outside our front door! I so appreciate you!!!
Aww, thanks so much! Have a beautiful Saturday 🙂
Reblogged this on Maryanne Mistretta.
Thank YOU!! 😍
Travel certainly broadens the horizons. I’m itching to get back on a plane.
Scratch away! 😜 Of course, you’ll receive no argument from me. Travel constitutes the very essence of my life…Thanks for visiting!!
Yay! Luggage Lady is back! Doing a little happy dance around the house. Beautiful, insightful, heartful poem, as always–thank you for the gentle and wise inspiration. Especially love “Melting into your trance/We scamper aboard…” and “Throw your heart’s eyes open….” I do look forward so much to your delicious, generous posts, LL. Hope you’re enjoying a gorgeous April, wherever you are. xoxo
Heart pounding wildly with the glee your kindness delivers! Sorry for my sporadic writing. My goal was to make it until June (one year!)with this blog. A crazy schedule is making that more challenging than I could have imagined. Thanks for patiently standing by! Happy April to you as well. XO
Oh, no! I never meant to suggest any pressure on you to write-I just enjoy the pleasure of reading your lovely work. Hope your crazy schedule settles down for you or that you’re at least getting some time to relax and refresh. Love to you
Insane schedule is self-induced! 😉 I welcome (and need) the motivation — especially when it comes from sweet Chloe. Loving hugs of deepest appreciation, now and always…
This one is lovely, LL. 🙂
Had a conversation about a similar topic with a friend recently, we spoke if the importance to break out of the daily routine and explore local possibilities instead of relying on a vacation / vacation weeks. He’ll want to read this one. ^^
Ah, Fredrik, (to tie into your recent blog post!) how swiftly you give me my smile back!!!!! YES, break out and enjoy life — everywhere and anywhere — and have a blast each step of the way, my dear friend! ♥
Beautiful post and reminder for me. I can open to discovery, and enjoyment here and now, and not wait for my grand travel adventures that I yearn for! Though I believe I will work toward a grand travel adventure too!
thanks for your wisdom Shauna.
Grand adventure with glorious little excursions along the way…I wish you the joy you so deserve every day, Brad!!
Lovely! Enjoyed reading your poem. So true!
Great to see you here, my friend! Thank YOU!!

I am amazed by your strength and inspiring attitude. Thanks for letting me find you!
Wonderful poem with a great idea! When we go to our local beach I always feel like I’m on holiday.
Blessings ~ Wendy
Fun! Great to see you again, Wendy!! 🌻
You captured the everyday magic that many don’t/can’t see. Loved this; reminded me of these lines from the New York Dolls:
“This life can seem so tragic
until you see the magic.”
best, mosk
Thank you so much, Mosk! Indeed, perspective is a choice. If we just manage to choose correctly 😜, life can be consistently magical…
Wish you were on my flight yesterday, that would have been a great conversation…I love your works here…I travel a lot and incorporate what I witness in a lot of my works.
Thanks! Maybe one of these times I’ll have that fortune –I’ll keep an eye out for you… Your writing captivates me. What a thrill to find you!!
A beautiful reminder that we all have things and treasures to discover close by in our daily environments! In fact, when we travel, we travel to someone else’s back yard…and I’m so happy we can learn so much about these “back yards” through our global community as bloggers. Thanks & XO
Thanks, Tiny. So true! I’ve certainly enjoyed wandering through your intriguing back yard a time or two! 🙂 ♥
Love words! Hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday! Cheers~ 😀
Oops~ silly me….should be *lovely words! Cheers!
Hi luggagelady. Hope your still enjoying your travelling. Thank you for liking my poem ‘ Mask’. Best Wishes, The Foureyed Poet.
Still enjoying, but scary thoughts from this poet I know sometime keep me awake at night… 😉
